Questions people ask
- Is the sort stable?
- Yes, always: rows whose sort cells are equal keep their original relative order. The output is exactly the input's rows in a decided sequence, never a shuffle of the equal ones.
- Where do empty values end up?
- Where you decide in advance: they are pinned to the very end of the output (the default) or the very start, and the pinning holds for either direction, so "where did the blanks go" always has the same answer in the same configuration.
- What does numeric mode do with "N/A" or "1,000"?
- It refuses: a cell the numeric grammar cannot read would force a guess, so the run names the first offending row (and how many rows share the problem) and produces no artefact. Switch to text mode to sort the same file lexically.
- Does text mode compare numbers?
- No: it compares cells as text, byte for byte. That is why "10" sorts before "9" in text mode; it is lexical order, honestly named. Use numeric mode when the numbers should sort as numbers.
- Is my data rewritten?
- No. Rows keep every column and value verbatim; only the row sequence changes (plus the optional formula-injection apostrophe, which is off by default).
