Questions people ask
- What is a contact sheet for?
- A single page that shows a whole set at a glance: proof sheets for photography shoots, selection grids for design rounds, a one-image overview of an archive. The grid carries filenames, so the sheet doubles as an index.
- Are my photos cropped or stretched into the grid?
- Never. Each thumbnail is scaled to fit its cell and centred, with the empty margin filled by the backing colour you chose. A vertical photo reads as a vertical photo.
- What happens to sideways photos?
- Their EXIF orientation flag is applied before layout, so each thumb appears the way viewers show it. The thumbnails are laid out from the corrected frames.
- My images have transparent backgrounds.
- Transparency is composited onto the sheet's backing (white by default), which is what a contact sheet is for: the flat backing keeps the reading clean.
- What if one file in the batch is broken?
- It is skipped and named in the summary; the rest of the sheet is built normally. A broken file costs its own cell, not your whole run.
- What happens to my files?
- The uploads are removed as soon as processing finishes; the sheet stays downloadable for about 10 minutes, then it is deleted automatically.
