Questions people ask
- How are coordinates measured?
- In display space: a non-identity EXIF orientation is applied to the pixels FIRST, so x/y are offsets from the top-left corner of the image as your viewer shows it, not of the raw stored pixels.
- What if my box falls outside the image?
- The run refuses with a named diagnostic giving the offending geometry. The tool never clamps silently and never returns a region you did not ask for.
- What does centre mode do?
- It takes the largest centred rectangle of the named aspect ratio (1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and the three portrait inverses) that fits inside the image. A crop only ever removes pixels, so no upscaling question arises.
- Does the crop lose transparency or metadata?
- Transparency survives (PNG and WebP alpha); JPEG has none, so a transparent source going to JPEG is flattened onto white. The output is re-encoded from decoded pixels with no EXIF, ICC or XMP at all.
