Questions people ask
- What exactly gets removed?
- The package's three properties parts: core (title, subject, author, last-saved-by, keywords, description, revision and the created/modified dates), extended (application name, company, manager, document statistics) and custom (any user-defined properties). ZIP entry timestamps are normalised too.
- Is my document changed?
- No. Every other part of the package (text, styles, images, charts, fonts) is copied byte for byte. The properties parts are emptied in place, not deleted, so the file stays a valid Office document.
- Does this make the file safe to share?
- It removes the document properties. It does not touch author initials inside comments or tracked revisions, an embedded thumbnail, or customXml data islands, because those live in the document itself. If you need those gone, review the document in your editor first.
- What about old .doc, .xls or .ppt files?
- Not supported: those are a different (OLE) format. Save as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx first, then scrub.
- Will the cleaned file say who made it?
- No. We do not stamp the output with our own name, and the library we use does not either.
- What happens to my files?
- The input is removed as soon as processing finishes; your cleaned file is available for about 10 minutes, then it is automatically deleted.
