Questions people ask
- Is it safe to unzip a file from the internet here?
- The archive is opened inside a sandbox that cannot reach the network or the rest of the system. Paths that try to climb out of the folder ("../", absolute paths) are rewritten to safe names, and symbolic links inside the archive are refused rather than created.
- What if the ZIP is a zip bomb?
- Extraction is measured as it streams. The moment the uncompressed total would pass 256 MB, the job stops with a clear "too large" error and the archive is never fully expanded.
- Can I open a .docx or .xlsx with this?
- Yes. Office documents are ZIP archives in disguise, so extracting one shows you the XML parts inside. Useful for curiosity and for finding stray metadata; it is not a way to edit the document.
- Do you keep my files?
- No. The archive is removed as soon as the job finishes. Your extracted files are available for about 10 minutes, then they are automatically deleted too.
